Sophia K. Kelley
Sophia Kelley is the chief strategist and founder of Content Media Solutions, LLC. With more than 30 years as an acquisitions and programming executive in the media industry, Sophia is a strategic, insightful, creative and results-driven leader with experience in spearheading creative, innovative ideas and acquiring game changing content for the networks she has worked on throughout her career. She is passionate about content, a proven strategist and collaborator working across legal, finance, distribution, marketing, public relations and operations with an ability to address challenges and opportunities head on to develop practical and creative solutions. An adaptable, relationship-building expert she is highly respected among her peers in the industry.
Prior to founding Content Media Solutions, LLC., Sophia was Vice President Acquisitions for Scripps National Networks overseeing content acquisitions across branded services Ion, Ion Mystery, Ion Plus, Bounce, Bounce XL, Brown Sugar, Grit, Grit XTRA, Laff, Laff More, Court TV, Scripps News, TrueReal and Defy. As part of her time at Scripps, she also worked in the original programming group, where she launched and was executive in charge of production of the Court TV Podcast, and worked on the development of various series and movies for Court TV and Bounce. Before landing at Scripps, she was Senior Vice President of Programming at UP Entertainment, LLC overseeing programming and acquisitions for UPtv, Aspire and digital streaming service UP Faith and Family. Throughout her eight years with UPtv, she worked through brand evolutions and the launch of the Aspire television network. She is responsible for the acquisition of hit series The Gilmore Girls, America’s Funniest Home Videos, Whose Line Is It Anyway? for UPtv, The Hughleys and In Living Color for Aspire and exclusive premiere content for UP Faith and Family. She also was responsible for co-producing/acquiring films throughout her tenure that brought UP some of its most successful ratings. In addition, she acquired theatrical network premieres that were brand defining and created/curated what would grow into a huge Christmas programming initiative, including “Gilmore The Merrier” that has delivered successful ratings year over year.
Before joining UPtv, Sophia was with Turner Broadcasting System Inc. for over 20 years, holding a number of leadership roles including heading up digital programming as Vice President for TBS, TNT and TCM, where she oversaw all content on digital platforms and was involved in the development of digital scheduling systems to address new media. In addition, she was on the executive team as Vice President and head of programming for Turner South, a regional southern-branded general entertainment network featuring original lifestyle series and sports. She developed and curated brand defining and groundbreaking content that featured unique franchises and lifestyle series Southern Living Presents, cooking show Home Plate, all female cast renovation series Homemakers, storytelling series Liars & Legends, flea market finds on Junkin' and song writer series Live From The Bluebird Café. Her career began at TBS with a number of roles within the programming department leading to her appointment to Vice President of TBS responsible for series and sports scheduling, including all marathons and overseeing operations for all content management.
Sophia is a graduate of the prestigious WICT Betsy Magness Leadership Institute Class XV and has also served as President of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast Chapter.
